Swim Lessons

Swim Lessons

The title says it all folks. I’ve enrolled us (gotta love parent participation 😐😟😒) in swim lessons. Parker is 5 and we’ve been meaning to sign her up last yr but, life 🙆🏼 so we’re finally doing it! And figured why not do classes for Marley too. She turn’s 2 in July, and “they say” the earlier, the better, right?!

Right 👌🏼(let’s get it straight before people say they love/hate parent participation classes 🙋🏼this ain’t my first rodeo. I have done yearsss of parent participation classes 😂Marley and I even do a parent participation gymnastics class on Tuesdays right now, while P is in her big girl class 😊But swimming sucks because I have to shave, wear a bathing suit, get in the water (not that I hate water but it’s been way cooler than usual in Roseville, CA and its cold in the dang pool!), and then encourage my child 👏🏼 that is cold 👏🏼 as well 👏🏼 lol. So it’s just sometimes rough😳, but fun at times😎, and actually really rad to see the growth, and experience it so closely with them. But girrrrrrl 😶shits cold, shaving sucks, and it was every day last week 😐3 more classes left! 🙌🏼I’m done!

My sweet Parker girl has never loved getting her eyes wet (even closed, I mean of course eyes are closed in water lol, but I’m just saying water on the eyes in any way, is torture to this kid😳), getting splashed in a pool, splash pads are a forbidden for her🚫, and she will bawl her eyes out when any of these events happens😭. Life 🙆🏼🙈yay. So when daddy and I mentioned we’re starting lessons.. and then the actual day comes and we start lessons 😟😬

The girl was devastated. A complete, terrified, wreck. And I am a total sap for fear. And something really frightening you. And getting past it. And my husband and I are all for not emotionally damaging our child🙌🏼. We related. We explained. We showed examples. Heck, I even scheduled the classes to where Parker watches Marley and I go first. And then we watch big sister when we’re done!

That first day was the hardest.

Marley was so/so the first day. It was SO hot! So she had no problem just getting acquainted with the water. But when it came time to try to blow bubbles in the water.. she was not a fan. But with a few distractions has always come around in class and ends up enjoying it. No worries🙈, mama is just dealing with emotions left and right from these girls, it just takes time for them to come around 😬👏🏼🙌🏼

Today was day 5 (it’s felt like we’ve been doing this for a month now lol). And BOTH🙌🏼. GIRLS🙌🏼. Not only got through the class with no tears, but made leaps and bounds! 🏊🏼🙌🏼

We may have told P after that first rough day, that if she could be brave and get her face wet without any tears, she could pick out a small toy🙆🏼.. a little something to give her the drive to actually want to try (instead of crying and being a complete wreck every time her face got wet😳😭) so she can get a toy🙆🏼. And ever since we made that negotiation

She has been a complete champ!

No shame. I don’t consider that bribing. I consider that facing her fear, and rewarding her for succeeding at it!

And ever since getting her face in the water, and overcoming that huge step, she really likes swim lessons (hallelujah!🙌🏼)! And now we have a 2 day break over the weekend and she’s ready for more! I told her we still luckily have 3 more classes next week, and are you ready for it?! She said: “that’s it?! I want to swim every day like we’ve been doing!” So.. I might sign her up again?! 🙆🏼we’ll see if it works out to get another 2 weeks in before our camping trip in August☺️But Marley and I.. I think we’ll stick to just this round of classes for the summer 🙅🏼

I just love that my husband and I are so sensitive to their little soles. And so on the same page in life. I think it’s really important to talk about feelings so that we’re able to feel strong and confident in hard/unknown situations and know that you’re feelings matter. We’re here to guide you. You can always talk to us. And if you’re ever uncomfortable with something please let us know. But swimming is something almost everyone does. And I promise you, you want in on swimming fun for the rest of your life with confidence that you wont drown. Point blank 🙆🏼

I feel like I’m ranting on now and should let you go lol

So! I hope you all are having a great summer! And to sum up this post…

I’m almost positive my kids enjoy water now. Bath time is now shower time 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼 I’ve reached a new milestone and baths are only at will now lol P has been able to shower now for a while and Marley LOVES showers now.

Our water journey shall continue!

How is your summer going?! Can anyone relate to going to swim lessons with your kiddos? Did they hate water? How do you overcome hard situations with your children? Let’s chat about it! I’d love to hear from ya’all!😊

DIY Taco Seasoning

DIY Taco Seasoning

Hi ya’all! So it’s Sunday. And preschool is officially over 😭🙀😬😩 I’m feeling many emotions about it as I’m sure you can feel just reading this lol. I’m happy, sad, excited, nervous, and straight up a bit overwhelmed with the thought of my first, precious little girl starting the journey of k-12. She is an amazingly smart, oh so sweet, tender little gal that wears her emotions on her face and sleeve and heart (whatever the expression is 🙆🏼🙈you know what I mean though, right?!). The tears poured out of this poor girl at her preschool graduation. And it was the sweetest, most heart breaking, most amazing thing to watch her push through those tears and sing the songs they’ve been practicing and walked and got her “diploma” but man was it painstakingly hard to watch😩. I just wanted to run up and hug her, but she loses it so much more when I console her, which I get (cuz I’m mom and she knows she can just let it gooooo let itttt goooo 🎶😂🙈🙊). But I didn’t🙅🏼 because she was pulling through👏🏼🙌🏼 (unless she looked at me 🙈then she welled back up😭), but I was just so amazingly impressed at how much my baby has grown up. And after the ceremony, she blossomed into her wonderful little confident self again 💪🏼 and we stayed for dinner and a pool party (not your usual preschool graduation, but it was such a fun time for the kids and parents tooooo, even though there were moments of oh my god I’m ready to goooo😬🙈).

So that’s where I’m at in life ☺️Now I need to figure out what the heck I’m going to do with my girls (5 yrs old & almost 2 yrs old) all 👏🏼summer👏🏼! But in the meantime, one thing I know that will always be apart of our summer is…

TACOS!

And I know, I know, tacos isn’t only a summer meal. My family, we eat tacos at least once a week (not kidding lol). Sometimes we’ll skip a week of taco noché, but you better believe we’ll eat it the next week.

I found my taco seasoning recipe on AllRecipes years ago. And it is THE best (seriously, so yummy🙌🏼). It IS spicy🔥🔥🔥so I’ve altered the recipe since we have 2 little ones that thoroughly enjoy taco noché 😋and since Marley can’t quite handle a taco shell yet, I make her a taco bowl 👌🏼I’m going to link the original recipe, here, and I’ll post my altered version ⬇️

DIY TACO SEASONING (altered version, toddler/kid friendly)

  • 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1/2 TSP garlic powder
  • 1/2 TSP onion powder
  • 1/2 TSP oregano
  • 1/2 TSP smoked paprika
  • 1 1/2 TSP ground cumin
  • 1 TSP salt
  • 1/2 TSP pepper

I usually quadruple this recipe and put it in a seasoning jar to get multiple uses out of it (instead of making it every single time, which I stupidly did for far too long and am so happy I keep this stuff in a jar now! I might have to start using a mason jar 😂😮🙌🏼 it’s that good!)

Life Update

Life Update

Can you believe it’s APRIL?!?!?!🙀Was it not just New Year’s?! This year is already a quarter of the way through and it’s blowing my mind…

Marley girl is almost 2! 😭TWO!! 3 more months and it’ll be July (shut the front door! 😬)! She’s a walking, talking (in her own crazy language, of course, with a couple actual words thrown in🙈), wild and crazy (very crazy), bright little bundle of energy and I just love her to pieces! Parker just had her 5th birthday and I’m slightly freaking out that she’s starting kindergarten this 😳year!  Life is happening. These girls are getting big. And I’m so proud of them😚! …minus Marley’s hefty meltdowns and tantrums lately😒.. Those can go eff off✌🏼

Okay, next..

The husband. He’s gotten into gardening. It started with succulents. Those succers are so rad (see what I did there🙊lol). But seriously, the whole family is into it now. And I love that we have something we’re all really fascinated by😍. Watching those little cuttings grow little babies. We look so forward to looking at the plants every day☺️lol. And then we decided we could try and do some herbs (chives, cilantro, oregano, basil) and then some veggies (mini red peppers, sweet cherry tomatoes, and corn. Yes. Corn. P’s obsessed and she’s just too stinkin cute that we decided to grow corn for her). It’s so fun! We have quite the succulent propagation going, we’ll have to see what we’re going to do with all of them! Maybe I could do a giveaway? Any succulent lovers out there?!

As for me, I’ve caught a thrift store bug. Nate and I went to a few around our town looking for things to plant our cute succulents in, and though they can be a bit of a mess to search through (some things are like😒👎🏼 ‘ew how long has this thing been collecting dust’ and others are like 😍🙌🏼‘you spark joy in me’ and my heart flutters because everything’s like 2.99 or .65 orrr 1.99😮 (and I dunno about you, but this mama likes a good deal!) we found so much stuffffff! Mind blown! So many actual pots for plants with drainage, really nice baskets, wood boxes😍😍😍.. Just a lot of really cool, random stuff that we could put our succulents in. So, of course, I’ve gone back a few times, and realized that with a good eye, and patience, there’s a good amount of some really nice clothing hidden in the rows and rows!🙌🏼 I came home and I was like “Babe… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to buy another piece of clothing for less than 2.99”😂lol he was pretty stoked about it to say the least.

So life is pretty cool💪🏼. Everyone is finally getting better after being sick all last week (ugh, it basically feels like we’ve been sick off and on since November!😣). Easter break is next weeeeeeek🐰🐣 and during that week, the hubs and I are going to the Taking Back Sunday show on the 17th💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼😁😁😁 (eeeeek!)! And then it’ll be Easter.

I mean… anyone else mind boggled?! Easter already?! What’s next? I gotta google this.. oh duh🙈, Mother’s Day! lol well that’s exciting😊!

Anyone else feel like this year is going by way faster than last?!
